Taking Care of Prostatectomy Patients Making Use of the Callisty Roy Nursing Programme
KRAMÁŘOVÁ, Iva
This diploma thesis deals with nursing care for prostatectomy patients using Callista Roy´s nursing programme. The situation, after prostate surgery, is a new life experience for men, that takes adaptation. Callista Roy, the author of Adaptation Model, was dealing with patient adaptation. The diploma thesis has set three aims. The first aim was to find out what interventions are used by nurses to support patient adaptation after prostatectomy in individual Callista Roy´s adaptation models. The second aim was to find out what stimuli nurses observe while providing prostatetomy patients with nursing care, and the third aim was to find out what problems prostatectomy patients face in individual adaptation modes. Three research questions were determined for these three aims. The diploma thesis contains two research files. The first research file are Urological Intensive Care Unit nurses and the other one are patients hospitalized at the Urological Standard Unit. Data was collected using qualitative research, methodology of questionnaires, interviewing technnique in prostatectomy patients at a hospital facility and nurses taking care of these patients. The survey is made complete by participant observation. The survey was carried out in February and March 2023. Nurse interview results have proven that nurses apply elements of the adaptation physiological mode when providing prostatectomy patients with nursing care. Patient interview results have proven they do not observe any problem in adapting to hospital environment nor in adapting to the state after having their prostate removed. The patient interview results have implicitly proven that they downplay the problems, and they would appreciate some help supporting their adaptation. The results of this diploma thesis may serve as a study material for healthcare field students. The diploma thesis may serve as inspiration for nurses supporting patient adaptation to carried-out prostatectomy.
Prevention of Postoperative Complications in Women after Caesarean Section
MUNKOVÁ, Eliška
The bachelor thesis deals with the prevention of postoperative complications in women after caesarean section. The thesis was divided into theoretical and practical parts. The theoretical part of the bachelor thesis explains the problems of caesarean section and its definition, history, indications, surgical techniques and types of anaesthesia that could be used during this operation. Last but not least, the thesis focuses on possible postoperative complications associated with caesarean section and on preventive steps for postoperative complications. At the same time, the theoretical part deals with the care provided by the midwife to the woman before, during and after the procedure. The aim of the qualitative research part was to find out what is the prevention of post-operative complications in a woman after caesarean section. One research question was set and that was: what care midwives provide to women after caesarean section in the prevention of post-operative complications. The data collection was done during the month of February and March 2023. Two research sets were set. The first research set was midwives working in the six-week care unit, providing care to women after caesarean section. The second research set was women who had a history of but-at least one caesarean section. Midwives PA1-PA9 and women I1-I8 agreed to provide a semi-structured interview. In the semi-structured interview, midwives were asked a total of 10 questions regarding the preventive measures they provide to women in their post-operative care. Women were asked 15 questions and were asked about their experiences of the post-operative care provided. After the interviews were transcribed verbatim, they were analysed by colouring the text. The midwives' and women's responses were coded and the main categories and their sub-categories emerged from the data analysis. The categories of midwives' data were titled: Care of the woman after SC and Postoperative complications. The women's data categories were called: Pre-operative phase, Post-operative phase, and Care provided. The research findings revealed that midwives working in the six-week care unit care for the woman after surgery by monitoring her health status to prevent postoperative complications along with education. As part of their continuing education, they regularly attend seminars on the prevention of post-operative complications and the care to be given to women after a caesarean section. This bachelor thesis could provide midwifery students with inspiration to improve the quality of care provided to the woman. Despite the significant positives of the results obtained, the research part also revealed shortcomings in the care provided after caesarean section. The shortcomings were mainly found in ineffective communication between the midwife and the woman, as well as inadequate education.
The view of girls and boys on the issue of abortion
FRNKOVÁ, Aneta
The present Bachelor's thesis focuses on analysing the views of secondary school students on the issue of abortion. The Bachelor's thesis consists of a theoretical and a practical part. The theoretical part discusses the pregnancy, its occurrence, and how to deal with an unwanted pregnancy. Furthermore, it addresses the characteristics of abortion, reasons for abortion, its history, methods applied, and possible complications. Among other things, it explains the importance of preventing unwanted pregnancy and the midwives' assistance with this issue. The practical part of the Bachelor's thesis focused on two objectives. The first one was to determine the level of knowledge and opinions of girls and boys on the issue of abortion. The second objective was to investigate the knowledge and opinions of girls and boys on abortion prevention. Initially, four hypotheses were set in the thesis. The first hypothesis sought to establish whether students aged 18-19 know more about abortion than those aged 15-17. This hypothesis was rejected. The second hypothesis was to determine if secondary medical school students have more profound knowledge about the possible complications of abortion than other secondary school students. The second hypothesis was also rejected. The third hypothesis investigated whether abortion was perceived as a harmless method more by boys than girls. This hypothesis was also rejected. The last hypothesis examined whether or not girls are more likely than boys to protect themselves from unwanted pregnancy. This hypothesis was also rejected. Data for the quantitative research survey was collected using a non-standardised questionnaire. The data was processed the graphical and tabular evaluation was performed using Microsoft Excel and SPSS. The cohort comprised 196 respondents; 135 women and 61 men completed the questionnaire. The respondents included secondary school students aged 15-19 years. Consecutively, the questionnaire was electronically processed in Microsoft Forms and shared on Facebook. The most numerous group of respondents were students at the age of 19 years.
Perinatal Phase of Ontogenesis - Variability and Complications
Netušilová, Nikola ; Vančata, Václav (advisor) ; Hlaváčová, Lucie (referee)
This bachelor thesis deals mainly with obstetric complications, with a part dedicated to the so- called cephalopelvic disproportion. The theoretical part of the thesis gives the reader a comprehensive overview of childbirth and its course. In the introduction, childbirth is defined in general terms, followed by a description of the different components of childbirth, and then a description of the time of delivery. Finally, the theoretical part is devoted to the definition of the cephalopelvic disproportion. The anatomy of the pelvis and fetal head is mentioned in relation to this complication. Furthermore, the major risk factors that usually condition the development of this disproportion are described. The practical part is carried out in the form of a questionnaire survey. Based on the questionnaire, the most common risk factors were identified, the possible occurrence of cephalopelvic disproportion was mapped and it was also investigated whether the participants are sufficiently informed about the possible occurrence of this complication. Adequate information is very important in the context of obstetric complications. Basic information and diagnoses are necessary to ensure that the woman is advised to have a birth that does not endanger herself or her foetus. It is clear from the survey results...
The Problems of Application of Intramuscular Injection
Stejskalová, Martina ; Pavlíková, Pavla (advisor) ; Eislerová, Iva (referee)
This bachelor thesis deals with application of intramuscular injections that are carried out by nurses in all areas of health care as their frequent daily activities. The objective of this study was to determine whether nurses have sufficient knowledge of the intramuscular injections use, what needles they choose for application on cachectic and obese patients, what injection site they uses mostly, the degree of their knowledge of the Z - tract method, their experience with complications in practice, and finally whether they observe all the principles of the safe and effective application of the intramuscular injections. Parenteral drug injection, needles, preparing doses from bottles of medicines and ampoules are mentioned in brief in the theoretical part. The applications of the intramuscular injections, stab points, the patient positions for application, application procedures, the method of Z - tract, specific applications and special attitudes to children and possible complications are described in the following chapters. The methodology and organization of the survey are depicted and the research findings are drawn in the empirical part of the thesis. General conclusions and proposals how to remove identified deficiencies are summarized in the end.
Diabetes mellitus type I. and physical activity
Douša, Martin ; Radvanský, Jiří (advisor) ; Procházka, Michal (referee)
The bachelor's thesis deals with diabetes mellitus type 1 and the opportunity of compensation by adequate physical activity, focusing on middle age and older patients, having suffered from diabetes for a long period of time. The thesis focuses on the different attributes of the burden, affecting the daily life of patients with diabetes. For better understanding and clarity of the issue, the work is divided into several chapters and sections dealing separately with the influence of physical activity and potential profits from regular, properly indicated motion for compensated patients. The thesis also describes involution changes occurring in the aging organism, which are always necessary to be taken into consideration when selecting a physical activity. The work is supplemented with pictures and graphs in the annex that enable a better show, and outline the issues. In my work, I not only try to show the positive influence of a wellchosen physical activity in patients with diabetes, but also highlight the potential risks and hazards coming from an improperly chosen therapy. Furthermore, I attempt to offer the chance to look at this type of therapy from several different perspectives. My aim is to show that a properly chosen physical therapy in individually selected range and performance should be much more...

Peripherally Inserted Central Catheter - a role of nurse
Rosypalová, Marta ; Michálek, Pavel (advisor) ; Hocková, Jana (referee)
This diploma thesis is related to peripherally inserted central venous catheters (PICC), the role of nursing staff in inserting and care of these systems. The aim of the work, which is partly based on PICC project organized by the Department of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine, 1st Faculty of Medicine of the Charles University and General University Hospital in Prague, was to investigate the quality of life in patients with PICC after their insertion, to evaluate the incidence of complications (venous thrombosis, bacteraemia, sepsis, local infections, decubitus, disconnection of the system, mechanical complications, etc.) and compare the economic efficiency of PICC systems with other available methods. The aim of the second part of the thesis, which is unrelated to the previously mentioned project, was to reveal the awareness of nurses/paramedics on PICC catheter. This thesis has two traditional parts - theoretical and empirical. The theoretical part deals initially with the central venous catheter in general and then it describes main features of the PICC systems. The following part reviews indications, insertion techniques and potential complications associated with the PICC systems. The role of nursing staff in the insertion and maintenance of these systems is also highlighted. The...
